Miss James performed a right therapeutic mammoplasty and left symmetrising reduction. From the first appointment with her, following my mammogram discovering micro-calcification (Cancer cells) in single duct, known as DCIS, she was professional, but kind and sympathetic. From the beginning she explored the different types of surgery that might suit me and my particular situation, supporting me to make my own decision and arranging it quickly. Culminating in the decision to have a reduction mammoplasty at the same time as the wide local excision. I felt I had full access to her in clinic and her excellent team, including the breast care nurses. They also liaise fully with the Macmillan unit on the same floor of the hospital, making it easy to obtain further financial and emotional support from their team too. It was important to me that everything was carried out quickly, and I cannot fault the speed and professionalism with which everything was carried out. I did have a few issues with the ward care after my surgery, but did have the opportunity to review this upon discharge. I now am happy in the knowledge that I will have annual mammograms for the next five years, for which I already have my first appointment booked for 2019. Also to know that I still have access to Miss James at any point, should I have concerns or questions. I am very happy with the finished result, and would be more than happy to recommend Miss James for similar procedures. In fact have recommended her this afternoon to a friend.

I have been really struggling with late effects of radiotherapy and also with side effects of my hormone treatment Zoladex and exemestane. The anxiety regarding a recurrence has been debilitating. I went to see Miss James with these concerns as well as pain in my axilla. She was very thorough in her investigations and the CT scan and ultrasound results were negative. Miss James concluded that I have some cording and surgical scarring. My relief is palpable! I am so pleased and happy with her professionalism, care, and reassurance. She put me at great ease and recommended the fantastic podcast ‘you, me and the big C’ especially the final in the last series ‘finding your new normal’. It is a very smart, insightful and reassuring podcast of fellow women going through breast cancer...and the madnesses it produces. Thank you to Miss James and the truly wonderful breast cancer nurses and whole team at Our fabulous top notch Luton and Dunstable hospital.

I had a small area of dcis removed by Miss James on 31st May. She removed it all with good margins, leaving what will be a small scar. I suffered no pain whatsoever. She was kind, professional and reassuring, and explained everything to me and my husband fully and with compassion. We had complete faith in her. I had heard how good the breast care team are at the L and D and my goodness they were. Everyone who dealt with me was fantastic, and so kind. I was lucky that i do not need any follow up treatment but am reassured that if i need them again they will all be there for me. Special thanks also to Frances Taffs my MacMillan nurse.
